東京芸術大学付属高校卒業。慶応大学仏文学科卒業、同大学院修士課程修了。

2001年に全曲オリジナルのアルバム「フェザー・イン・ジ・エア」、続いて、２作目「スミコ・エン・ラ・ハバナ」を発表した後、３作目目、ドリ・カイミとのコラボレーション「アザ・ブランカ」でBMGからメジャー・デビュー、４作目「キャッチ・ア・レインボー」で、スイングジャーナル誌のゴールドディスクに選定され脚光をあびる。現在までに９枚のリーダーアルバムを発表する。今までにロン・カーター、ベニー・グリーン、ケニー・ワーナー、モンティ・アレキサンダー、コンパイ・セグンド、ハリー・アレンなどジャズやラテン界の巨匠らと共演。自然からインスピレーションを受け、聴く人を自然へといざなう音楽活動を行う。 また、音楽活動と平行して、2013年からは、人々が音楽と自然を通して学び集い、調和の気持ち良さを楽しむためのコミュニティガーデン  ”Leaf& Root” を主宰運営している。2003年より 千葉県館山市ふるさと大使

Sumiko Fukatsu is a unique and original artist, with the ability to implement a wide variety of music into her performances.  Her music is a mixture of Latin and Jazz music, and she has visited Cuba on many occasions, to find the perfect groove in her music.

 Sumiko has released 7 albums including her 3rd Album “Asa Blanca” for major label BMG Japan(2002). Her 4th Album “Catch a Rainbow (2003) was also selected as a gold disk by Swing Journal.

She has recorded with Benny Green, Monty Alexander, Ron Carter, Dori Caymmi,

Harry Allen and other jazz greats, and participated in many International

Jazz Festivals in Canada and Cuba (Havana).

 Her style is a combination of beautiful melody with upbeat Jazz, Latin and Brazilian grooves, and her music creates a cosmopolitan feeling with a natural spirit, enriching the enjoyment that can be felt”.
